As you know from this article about Brain Nutrition, the brain is a wonderful creation with no limitation, just untrained. A very important thing in these days is the reading, you MUST read if you want to know things, update your info or train yourself in using a software, technology, machine, etc.
But reading, as you experienced, becomes dull, boring, after a certain period of time, what can I do, why do i get bored? Simple, you don't stimulate your brain. Example: you have a boring day, it's almost the end of that day and you barely move towards your home, suddenly a group of raged dogs start running after you, although you were barely moving as soon as you see the dogs chasing you, you instantly start running, whats that? stimulation!
Same thing with the brain, he is simply tired of reading at the same speed. Here are some tips that will get him out of his sleeping state.
1. Use a pacing tool
You can use your finger or a normal pencil, move the tool along the lines of the book you are reading to keep you moving forward as fast as possible.
By using this technique you manage to keep under control one of the most important things, the regretion. The Regretion, is the moment when you return back to read again a word or phrase, you must NOT do this if you want to progress.
Always move your pacing tool faster than you normally read, your eyes will eventually get used to viewing text faster than your brain can process the actual words on the page. This will allow you to break your limits and loose the habit of subvocalization. What is subvocalization? At an average/normal reading speed, most people actually read the words in their head, which is known as subvocalizing. This is where you are "hearing" the words in your head, or even saying them to yourself as you read. This kills your reading speed instantly.
2. Reading is not from A to B
To read is to extract ideas. When you read, you need to pick up the important ideas from the book, that doesn’t necessarily mean reading them in a particular order.
It's suggested to skip the parts of a book that you don’t need. Almost every book has a good point, but it is highly unlikely that the entire book will be full of ideas from which to learn something. Be smart, take only what you need.
3. Peace and Calm
If you want to be efficient, then be efficient! Don't read while your buddy is buzzing you on the messenger and interrupting you from 10 to 10 minutes. Read in a quiet room, with no one to bother you, this way you will be able to faster comprehend the text you are reading.
4. Read 2 or more words at once
This is a brain speed technique, used in reading and known as chunking. By looking at "pairs" of words as you read, you will allow your mind to process ideas and visual images instead of individual words.
5. Mind Map the Page
Visualize the ideas on the page as images in your head. Portions of the human brain are created just for processing information visually, making them the fastest circuits in the brain for processing information, take advantage of them.
Using a Mind Map is the best way, in my opinion, to process information visually. For example while reading about a person that fell and injured at his elbow, try to imagine that, this will make a mind map on your brain which will retain the story you have read.
Practice and you will become extremely fast in acquiring information from any source that involves reading or viewing a set of images.
To practice faster reading and reading 2 or more words use this website: Speeder.com. I tested it and is nothing but great, good and can be set to display more or less words per minute, 1 or more words and so one.
Never forget, nothing it's impossible for you to do, the only thing that stops you from doing it is you and the lack of constant testing of your body or brain in that certain domain. Constantly test yourself in that domain, in impossible odds and your body will adapt, this is our greatest racial heritage, adaptation to any condition, situation.
