Starcraft 2 is back, with unbelievable graphics, new units and a superb new story that continues where the last action took place in Broodwar.
The game will be played like the first parts in single player and Blizzard says it will be a groundbreaking experience, or on Battlenet where we will all gather to continue the saga.
Ok i know you all are impatient cause you wait for this game for some time now, from 1998 if i remember correctly right? so lets rock!
Blizzard's words about the game:
"
»Fast-paced, hard-hitting, tightly balanced competitive real-time strategy gameplay that recaptures and improves on the magic of the original game
»Three completely distinct races: Protoss, Terran, and Zerg
»New units and gameplay mechanics further distinguish each race
»Groundbreaking single-player "story-mode" campaign
»Vibrant new 3D-graphics engine with support for dazzling visual effects and massive unit and army sizes
»Full multiplayer support, with new competitive features and matchmaking utilities available through Battle.net
»Full map-making and scripting tools to give players incredible freedom in customizing and personalizing their gameplay experience "
Excited yet? Lets talk about the Protoss cause this review obviously is dedicate to the old Zealot holder.
Templar caste of the Protoss
The Protoss defended their race from threats like the ferocious zerg and they are constantly living their long lives to the goal of martial perfection.
»Zealots are fearless templar warriors who have yet to touch the highest ranks of the Khala. Eager for battle each and every minute, zealots train constantly to attune themselves more closely to the Khala's disciplines and show that they are worthy of a higher rank. They describe the best, the ferocity of the protoss at war.
The new Zealots are beautifully created with their blades showing off very nice and some new abilities like haste which allows them to charge almost instantly to the enemy, decreasing the time needed to reach ranged units.
»The Immortals
After the Protoss was infested by the zerg the shrine of the dragoons creation died, instead the prostoss evolved and replaced the dragoons with a superb unmatched warrior, the immortal. He is a fallen warrior that in war lost and arm, leg or got crippled completely, but after that he continued to want to serve his people and so he transplanted into a dragoon exoskeleton. Now, the dragoons of the past are all but gone.
These new merged warriors have twin phase disruptors and powerful shields around them
that can easily withstand the blast of siege tanks, they are truly the ultimate support branch. They are deadly in combination with zealots because, with their shields they are able to take large amounts of damage and destroy the ranged units permitting the zealots to get in close in hand to hand combat.
But they have a weakness, their shields activate only when blasted with powerful attacks, this means that a unit of marines that have relative weak attacks can destroy with no problems a bunch of Immortals.
»The Stalker
A category of warriors of the protoss race that refused to surrender their individuality to the Khala.
Exiled by their own race they managed to focus their inner psionic power even feeding on the void of space. The dark templar mastered the assassin's way striking unseen from the shadows.
But that wasn't enough to resist the overwhelming Zerg so they inspired from the new dragoons their brothers developed so the Dark Templar forged war machines of their own. The stalker is a machine controlled by the shadow-essence of a dark templar warrior, willingly fused into its metal body.
they have the ability to "blink" teleport near enemies and powerful destruction power against structures. They spread horror on units trying to flee the battlefield or units that think they are out of their range.
Their particle disruptors can easily cripple ground units or air units, thats why many units avoid these shadow warriors as much as they can.
»The Phase Prism
The Protoss is a very smart race, that uses everything around it to evolve. They studied time and space for centuries and their results gave them an great tactical advantage on the battlefield.
By using psionic manufacturing processes, the Protoss learned how to forge a robotic mind whose software is built into the molecules of an advanced crystal. This cybernetic core is able to manipulate matter and energy with a precision no ordinary organic mind could comprehend.
The main use of these machines is to transport Protoss forces on the Battlefield, living or inorganic units can be transformed into energy, and their unique energy signature imprinted into the prism's crystal lattice core. At the destination point the process is reversed and the stored energy signatures are reconfigured into matter.
Another tactical advantage is in defense. If a pylon is destroyed they can act as temporarily energy replacements until another one is built, something impossible in past when zergs constantly attacked these structures to leave underpowered the Gateways.
»The Colossus
This is a very good support unit. It looks like a giant spider with 4 legs, with 2 constant laser cannons mounted on his torso that can cut through the toughest armor.
They have the ability to walk through the map anywhere they want, climb cliffs, walk over walls, almost any obstacle can be ignored.
Their weakness reveals itself when fighting with large numbers of small attackers, because it takes to much to focus it's lasers. Another weakness is against flying units, they can destroy a colossus in seconds. They are the perfect support unit for the Zealots.
»The Pheonix
A new Protoss flying unit that if used correctly will own the sky. It's main capability is the Overload sequence, which practically takes the unit to it's limits shooting lasers in multiple targets at great speed.
Overloading it at the right time can destroy a large aerial army, but be careful because if you don't overload at the right moment you will become a sitting duck as the Pheonix will be defenseless after the overload ends for a few good seconds.
They have medium armor and it's not recommended to engage them in battle with large thick armored aerial units like the Battlecruiser.
»The Warp Rays
Slow moving air units, they are the best choice when dealing with Battlecruisers or slow, large units because of it's focus laser that deals more damage the longer it fires at one target. This advantage makes them deadly against ground structures.
Their weakness is great and obvious. Because they move so slow and takes time to focus their lasers small units that attack in numbers can destroy them easily because they there's no time to focus on all those small units.
More units are yet to come, but this is just a glimpse of the real power the Protoss
posses. This article will be updated as Blizzard unveils more of this great race.
There are truly some major changes, like the Immortals shields which now can be a major advantage against the massive defense of sieges. In the first Broodwar the a player that closed itself in his bas, defensively with 10 Siege Tanks and some bunkers would have been almost impossible to defeat unless you resorted to air support, now it will be possible with ground units.
As for the Stalker, unlimited tactics options, what pops in my mind now is a unit of Stalkers "blink" teleporting near some untouchable units of Reavers, you know the rest.
Finaly Starcraft 2 is not a rumor anymore, the saga continues, are you prepared?
